Good news to those of you seeking help – counseling is an effective means of dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, anger, stress, and relationship problems.
Studies have consistently reported that 80% of people who completed therapy are better off than people who did not receive therapy.
I offer a variety of powerful methods that increase the likelihood of success in your counseling experience.
Seeking out the help of a therapist can be a difficult step to take. When life is not going well, it is ok to seek out the help of a professional. I am committed to reaching your goals and I love to see my clients make life transforming changes.
I use evidence-based practices such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Positive Psychology to help you reach your goals.
The most convincing area of research in therapy outcomes (goal achievement)for me is known as Client-Directed, Outcome Informed (CDOI) therapy or what I refer to as Feedback Improved Therapy. The process is fairly simple, involving systematic monitoring of progress and the client’s experience in counseling.
In a large, well designed study a therapist’s effectiveness increased 120% after FIT or CDOI was introduced into the counseling process. Utilizing this process makes a difference!
In the last decade there has been a growing body of research supporting the intricate link between the mind and the body. Illness or imbalance in either sphere can adversely affect the other. I would also add to this mind-body connection the relationship to the spirit or soul. I seek to treat the whole person knowing that the more complete the approach the better the results.
Encouraging clients to take advantage of the benefits of exercise and nutrition can significantly improve anxiety and depression. This is backed up with scientific research.
For some clients, integrating faith into their counseling experience is important; I believe this is an added strength I can offer my clients.
Although my counseling approach tends to be eclectic, much of what influences my work is from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which primarily addresses how thoughts and behavior affect how we feel. Dozens of research studies have evaluated the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy for depression.
A summary of four major studies that compared CBT to medications found that the "overall (results) comparing antidepressant medication to CBT favored CBT” in severely depressed people.
Two other important theoretical influences are Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Positive Psychology. Feel free to inquire for more information or click each topic for the Wikipedia link.
As a certified life coach, I incorporate coaching principles and techniques when working with clients. I place an emphasis on client strengths, which respects the dignity of the human person and creates greater hope for change.

Upon request, I integrate the Christian faith into my work with individuals and couples.
